William MahoneyST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man accused of stealing a car and committing a home invasion before he was shot by a state trooper on a parked school bus has been ordered held on $50,000 bail.
William Mahoney pleaded not guilty Monday to multiple charges at his arraignment, including attempted simple assault on a law enforcement officer; leaving the scene of an accident; driving with a suspended license; negligent operation; and felony charges of aggravated operation without consent of the owner and unlawful trespassing.
The Caledonian-Record reports court documents say Mahoney was shot in September after he charged down the aisle of the bus toward Sgt. Brian May while pretending to pull a handgun from a holster on his right hip. No weapon was found.
