The 116th Saranac Lake Winter Carnival begins Friday, but the center piece of the event may not be ready.
Each year, the carnival features an ice castle, which we showed you was under construction earlier this week. But unseasonably warm temperatures and rain have halted construction since Tuesday. The castle was covered with a tarp for protection from the rain and wind. However, crews will not be able to begin working on it until Friday and they aren't sure if they will finish it in time for Friday's opening ceremonies. Another problem-- snow around the castle has melted and made it very muddy around the castle.
