BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Chittenden County
Prosecutor T.J. Donovan says he wants to investigate claims of a sex assault by
a Vermont Guard member, but he needs more to go on.
The incident came to light
at the Vermont Statehouse as candidates campaign to be the next leader of the
Vermont National Guard. An anonymous letter circulated there alleges sexual harassment
by a guard member and claims retired Brigadier General John Farnham did not
take the complaint seriously. Farnham has since dropped out of the running to
lead the Guard.
Donovan says he can't
launch an investigation without a complaint or a victim and the statute of
limitations is about to expire. Donovan plans to reach out to lawmakers who met
with the alleged victim.
