For the first time since a former Marine was rescued from Mount Washington after being swept away in an avalanche, we're hearing frightening story.
Keith Zeier says his experience as a Marine was part of the reason he survived. Zeier lost his leg in bomb blast in Iraq.
On Jan. 18, he and 11 others were trekking up Mount Washington to raise money for families of wounded or killed Special Operations soldiers when they were swept some 800 feet down the mountain by an avalanche.
"There were times where you know -- this definitely may be it, but, at that point it wasn't our time and you know once again I got another chance," he says.
All 12 climbers survived. They are expected to make full recoveries.
