CVU Freshmen Sadie Otley and Laurel Jaunich combined to score 26 points as the Redhawks beat Rice, 48-44 at Champlain Valley Union on Friday Night.  With the win, CVU is the lone undefeated girls team in the entire state at 12-0.  Rice, the defending Division 1 state champs, drop to 11-1 on the season.

The Green Knights rallied from an early deficit to tie it at 18 after the first quarter thanks to a buzzer-beating lay-up from Tomi Akinpetide.  Akinpetide finished with 14 points.

The Redhawks went back in front in the second quarter getting baskets from Jaunich, who finished with a team high 15 points.  CVU took a 23-18 lead into the lockeroom at halftime.

They extended the lead in the third quarter, led by Emily Kinneston and her 11 points.  It was 34-29 Redhawks after 3.

The lead would grow to as many as 10, but Rice would knock it back to 2 late in the fourth quarter.  Cassidy Derda had a game high 16 points for Rice as she tried to get her team back in it, but Kinneston made a jumper in the final seconds to put the game away.
