Sandy Miller
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -
South Burlington's city manager was
fired for his "aggressive and confrontational style" according to a
statement released Tuesday by the City Council.
The council voted Monday night to
terminate Sandy Miller effective immediately. But councilors did not discuss
their reasons. Tuesday's statement acknowledges that the firing is not
"for cause," meaning the city will have to pay Miller 12 months of
salary and benefits with the salary totaling $117,000.
The council says the need for change
outweighs that cost. In the statement, the councilors say Miller's "... direct
interactions with Council members have ... become strained." And "
... the Council doubts Mr. Miller's commitment to carry out Council decisions
with which he disagrees."
Miller's lawyer says Miller was
shocked and dismayed by the council's decision.
