NEW YORK -
New York Senator Chuck Schumer is calling on the feds to change the rules around hydrocodone prescriptions.
Schumer says a federal drug safety and risk management committee voted 19-10 in favor of upping the drug's classification, joining the ranks of methadone and oxycodone.
This reclassification would put an end to automatic refills for hydrocodone, requiring a new prescription for each bottle.
The final decision rests with the Food and Drug Administration.
