If you have a business dream but maybe not the capital to get it off the ground, you'll want to listen up. The Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with the city of Burlington and the state to start "Launch Vermont."
Launch Vermont is a business pitch competition where one lucky young entrepreneur will win $20,000 cash and $40,000 worth of services and a Burlington incubator space to launch a new business idea. Applications are being accepted until May, and then five people will be picked to deliver their pitch to a panel of judges, making someone's dream business a reality.
"It is the entrepreneurs that start small and get big or small and stay small that provide jobs in Vermont. It's critical if we're going to get to the level of prosperity we want for our businesses that we use all the tools in our toolbox" Vt. Administration Secretary Jeb Spaulding said.
"There are major gaps in our ecosystem of companies that need to be filled in and a competition like this has a good chance of filling those gaps," said Mayor Miro Weinberger, D-Burlington.
There is no firm restriction on age eligibility. The organizers say you know if you're young.
