LOWELL, Vt. -
Vermont utility regulators have fined Green Mountain Power $30,000 for permit violations while shipping turbine parts.
The huge towers and blades made quite a spectacle passing through Vermont communities on their way to Lowell. The shipments also caused some problems, including a highway accident that tied up traffic.
The state required GMP to notify communities the shipments would pass through. GMP says because of an administrative error, they did not make those notifications.
GMP reached a settlement with the Department of Public Service to pay $7,500, but the Public Service Board raised the fine to $30,000. GMP says they regret the error and they are disappointed in the size of the fine.
