A Vermont veteran was honored in Montpelier Thursday. He's a former Channel 3 Super Senior.
John Micknick was presented with a number of military medals for his service as a merchant marine during World War II. The 91-year-old was surrounded by friends, family and Norwich University cadets at the afternoon ceremony at Westview Meadows.
"It is a very big surprise," Micknick said. "But I enjoy it, very nice, I congratulated everybody, I thanked everybody for coming."
"I am so proud that he can be honored for serving his country," said Chris Abrams, Micknick's daughter. "He has so many stories and memories and after all of these years they are history."
Micknick is being honored 67 years after his service in the Pacific, Atlantic and Mediterranean oceans. His daughter says the family only recently realized the veteran was eligible for the medals.
