RUTLAND, Vt. -
Expansion work at the Southern Vermont Regional Airport is coming this summer.
Nearly $5.5 million of the Transportation budget is helping to double the length of the runway to 600 feet, and provide more flat terrain as a safe area for planes to come to rest.
The Rutland Herald reports this work should upgrade the airport's safety rating from fair to excellent.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers still needs to approve a final permit because the project includes work in wetlands.
