UVM looks to expand online offerings

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

University of Vermont trustees are gathering on campus this week. The group is tackling a number of topics as part of a three-day meeting.

Friday morning, UVM President Thomas Sullivan addressed members on the current state of the university. He pointed to favorable rankings from Kiplinger's guide to public college and a 3 percent increase in student applications as positives.

Sullivan says there's room for growth when it comes to the programs the university offers online.

"We are going to be moving forward to look very carefully at our structures, our platforms, and how we can take what is quite a substantial presence already and move it significantly forward," Sullivan said.

Sullivan and board chair Robert Cioffi both addressed efforts to find a new university provost.

A search committee met this week and hopes to have finalists visit campus for interviews by May.
