Cadets cruise past Castleton

Friday, February 8th

NORTHFIELD, VT -- The Norwich University men's ice hockey team scored six unanswered goals to down in-state rival Castleton State 6-1 on Friday night at Kreitzberg Arena.

Whiteout conditions outside fit in well with a raucous crowd inside for Whiteout Night II as the Cadets got two goals from senior forward Kyle Thomas on their way to claiming their sixth straight victory in the Battle of Vermont rivalry.  Junior forward Shane Gorman and freshman forward Dean Niezgoda each chipped in with a goal and two assists as well for NU.

Norwich (19-2-0, 14-1-0 ECAC East) also won its sixth straight game and now needs only one point in its final three games to clinch its unprecedented 15th straight ECAC East regular season title.

Josh Harris score the lone goal for Castleton (13-8-2, 8-7-1 ECAC East).  A shorthanded goal in the first that game the Spartans a short lived 1-0 lead.
