Make-Up Sunday at Middlebury

Posted: Updated:
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -

Leading by one, Middlebury went on a 10-1 run 1:42 into the second half to take a 43-33 lead with 13:47 remaining. A three from Kizel and one from Nolan Thompson were the key buckets over the 3:30 span

Middlebury will wrap up its regular season on Tuesday night when they host sixth-ranked Amherst at 7:00 p.m. A Panther win would leave the top seed in a three-way tie with Amherst, Williams and Middlebury, while a win by the Jeffs would secure them the top slot for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament.

Middlebury earned a split of a two-game set with Williams (12-7-3, 9-5-2), topping the Ephs 3-1 in Kenyon Arena.  Matt Silcoff scored his ninth of the year for the Panthers at the 10:38 mark, crashing the net after Mathieu Castonguay's shot had been saved by Sean Dougherty (22 saves).

The Panthers took a 2-0 advantage just 1:04 into the second period with the second of the year from Riley Dickey. Louis Belisle's shot on the left wing in transition was saved by Dougherty, before Dickey buried the rebound on the far side.

The Panthers took a 3-1 lead 2:28 into the third period. Brendan McGovern made a pass from the left boards to Ben Wiggins in the high slot, before Wiggins snapped a shot into the top left corner of the net for his fifth of the season.

The Panthers (11-9-2, 10-4-2) have now won five of their last six games, returning to action next Friday at Hamilton.
