Coventry to vote on fire department

COVENTRY, Vt. -

Building a fire department is up for debate in Coventry, and voters will have the final say on Town Meeting Day.

The Caledonian Record reports it would cost $515,000 and would be paid for by tipping fees from the Casella Waste Landfill.

They are planning to build in the town pit along Route 14. Currently Newport, Orleans and Irasburg crews respond to incidents in Coventry, and charge the town.

A public meeting is scheduled for Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the community center.
