MALONE, N.Y. -
City officials are taking steps to protect the public from a crumbling building in Malone.
This building on Main Street was condemned in 2010 and debris is now falling from the 90-foot building, threatening public safety.
The Plattsburgh Press-Republican reports work started Wednesday attaching metal plates so that if the building collapses, the debris will fall within its walls and not into the street or Salmon River.
Thursday at 1 p.m. officials are meeting to discuss options for the condemned site, because they have been unable to reach the owner, who lives in England.
