MONTPELIER, Vt. -
A fourth candidate has thrown his hat in the ring to be the commander of the Vermont National Guard.
Activist James Leas announced Thursday that he is running. Leas is the only candidate who is not a member of the military and he is a vocal opponent of the F-35.
Leas and the other three candidates make their final pitch to lawmakers Thursday night. The other candidates are Air Guard Brigadier General Steven Cray of Essex Junction, retired Army Colonel Mike Bullock of Hinesburg and Col. Darryl Ducharme of Williston. Lawmakers vote by secret ballot to pick a new Adjutant General next Thursday.
