MALONE, N.Y. -
Malone officials say a crumbling building must come down.
This 90-foot-tall condemned building has people worried it will soon collapse, and fall into the Salmon River.
The Plattsburgh Press-Republican reports that at a meeting Thursday, demolition crews said they could knock it down for $500,000, much less than it would cost to bring it back up to code.
Mayor Todd Lepine says the village would have to declare a state of emergency to dip into a water district reserve fund to pay for the demolition. He says they might recoup the money in federal and state reimbursement.
