Majority of Vt. small businesses have no employees

WASHINGTON -

The vast majority of Vermont companies rank as small businesses and most of them are so small they don't have any employees at all.

A new report from the Small Business Administration shows Vermont has 77,853 small employers. That's 96.3 percent of the companies in the state. Those small businesses employ 157,720 workers-- 59.7 percent of the workforce. But get this-- 76.3 percent of the companies are so small, they don't have any employees other than the owners.
