Fatal crash in Beekmantown

BEEKMANTOWN, N.Y. -

Several miles of the Military Turnpike in Clinton County were closed Friday after a deadly crash.

It happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. in Beekmantown. Police 70-year-old John Phaneuf of Plattsburgh did not stop at a stop sign at the intersection of the Turnpike and Jersey Swamp Road. His pickup was then hit by two approaching vehicles. Phaneuf died at the scene. The two other drivers -- and two passengers were taken to the hospital with injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
