MIDDLEBURY, VT - The UVM ski team has an narrow eight point lead over Dartmouth after the first day of the Middlebury Carnival. The hosts sit in third after the opening day of competition.
In the nordic events, Middlebury's Annie Pokorny earned her second win of the season, claiming the women's 5K classic by almost 19 seconds at the Rikert Nordic Center
Dartmouth had a 1-2 finish in the men's 10K, with Sam Tarling besting teammate Silas Talbot by almost eight seconds.
In the slalom races at the Snow Bowl, Middlebury favorite David Donaldson failed to finish his first run, knocking Donaldson out of contention and opening the door for UVM's Travis Dawson to claim the win.
In the women's slalom, first run leader Kristina Riis-Johannessen of UVM crashed ealry in her second run, but fellow SkiCat Kate Ryley posted a second place finish, with Dartmouth's Sara Kikut from Burlington finishing third behind winner Goerdie Lonze of Williams.
The Middlebury Carnival concludes tomorrow with the men's and women's giant slalom at Snow Bowl and a pair of mass start freestyle races at Rikert.
