MONTPELIER, Vt. -
A proposal to increase a tax on heating fuels does not have the support of Gov. Peter Shumlin.
Lawmakers are looking at a 10- to 12-cent tax per gallon on fuel to raise an estimated $16 million to help weatherize the homes of low-income Vermonters.
The governor's spokeswoman says he does not support that plan, noting that the governor has already proposed a way to fund efficiency, weatherization and fuel assistance by taxing break-open tickets.
