SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -
More than 1,000 people turned out
Saturday to raise awareness about AIDS.
The annual "Winter is a Drag
Ball" took place at Higher Ground in South Burlington.
The event is hosted by the House of
Lemay. One-hundred performers provided six hours of entertainment, including
dancers, singers and a costume parade.
Money raised at the annual event
benefits the Vermont People with AIDS Coalition.
"This is the 11th
year the House of Lemay has produced the Winter is a Drag Ball," Bob
Bolyard of the House of Lemay said before the party got started. "Over the
last 10 years, we have raised over $100,000 for the Vermont people with AIDS
Coalition. It's a good cause and we look to add probably $10,000 -$12,000 to
that."
Organizers say it's the
largest attended single event at Higher Ground each year.
