NH bill considers arming school employees

Posted: Updated:

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire House committee will hear from the public on whether schools should allow employees to carry guns.

The Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee is holding a hearing Thursday on legislation to allow school boards to ask voters if school employees who are licensed to carry a concealed gun should be allowed to do so while on school property.

The shooting rampage that killed 20 children and six educators in Newtown, Conn., has prompted debate around the country about how better to protect schoolchildren. Some argue arming school employees would have saved lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School and at other school shootings.
