RUTLAND, Vt. -

More changes are coming to downtown Rutland, now that designs for the newest addition at Green Mountain Power have been approved.

GMP purchased a decaying building on Merchants Row for the new Energy Innovation Center. The energy company says that in addition to giving the building a face-lift, the renovation marks a new chapter in Rutland City.

"It's already important in having an impact in getting others to build in the downtown," says Steve Costello of Green Mountain Power. "Small Dog electronics, has committed to the city, SameSun Choice is going to be opening a solar products business right across the street from us -- and those are both a direct result of the investment we are making in the city."

Construction for the new art deco design will begin by early March. Green Mountain Power says they hope to move into the building by October of this year.
