CCCF Starts Initiative for Grassroots Fundraising Efforts

RYE, N.Y., Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation (CCCF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing colorectal cancer incidence and death throughout the United States, today announced a new fundraising and awareness initiative called Take the Challenge. The grassroots program is designed to motivate Americans to promote and encourage life-saving colorectal cancer prevention procedures in their own communities.

Take the Challenge runs from March 1, 2013, through May 31, 2013, and is an opportunity for both CCCF supporters and non-supporters throughout the country to hold new, fun and creative fundraising initiatives on behalf of the foundation. Take the Challenge participants are asked to engage their local communities, increase awareness of colorectal cancer and encourage their neighbors to support CCCF's fight to eradicate the disease.

"Colorectal cancer is an increasing problem among Americans and particularly younger individuals. Our supporters are ambassadors, they are vocal about this illness and I'm confident their passion will resonate with those in their local communities," said Dr. Thomas Weber, CCCF founder, professor of surgery at the State University of New York at Downstate and chief of surgery at the Department of Veterans Affairs New York Harbor Healthcare System, Brooklyn campus. "People are continually asking us for ways to help, and Take the Challenge provides them with tools and resources to increase awareness and raise funds among those they care about the most."

Each Take the Challenge participant will receive a fundraising kit to help them start, manage and generate publicity around the community initiative they develop. The kit includes information on how to develop an online fundraising page that connects with the CCCF main website, ideas for engaging their community and publicity materials to help spread the word about their initiative.

CCCF will select one winning initiative that it plans to incorporate into its ongoing national fundraising efforts. Judging criteria will include the amount of funds raised compared to operating costs, overall success and involvement generated from the campaign and public vote through the CCCF Facebook page.

Those interested in participating in Take the Challenge can download program materials at www.coloncancerchallenge.org, or contact CCCF by phone at 914-305-6674 or by email at info@coloncancerchallenge.org.
