BENNINGTON, VT - It was twice as nice for both CVU and Woodstock in the high school nordic state championships Tuedsay at Bennington.
Both the Redhawks and Wasps followed up convincing performances in the freestyle races last week in Craftsbury with equally strong efforts in the classic races at Prospect Mountain to sweep the Division One and Two state titles respectively.
After winning his race last week, CVU's Forrest Hamilton finished second to Rutland's Isaac Wright in the boys classic race today. But the Redhawks followed that with a dominant performance in the relay to win their second state title in three years.
On the women's side, CVU's Taylor Spillane won on Tuesday after finishing second last week in Craftsbury, and again, the Redhawks relay team rolled to a win to lock up a second straight D-1 state crown.
In Division three, it was a Woodstock sweep in the individual events. Zach Fields won both the boys freestyle and classic races, while Carmen Bango took top honors in both girls events.
The Woodstock boys also won the relay Tuesday, but BFA-Fairfax girls managed to beat the Wasps in the girls relay. However, the outcome was already settles. The Woodstock boys winning their fourth straight D-2 championship. The girls claiming their first state crown since 2007.
