The top-ranked Plattsburgh State women's hockey team rallied twice to defeat nationally-ranked No. 4 Elmira College, 4-2, as the league's top two teams battled for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's West Championship Sunday afternoon at the Stafford Ice Arena. Appearing in their 12th-straight ECAC West Championship game, the Cardinals claimed their third ECAC West Title and first since 2007. With the win, Plattsburgh remains undefeated at 25-0-2 on the year and earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Tournament. The NCAA Quarterfinals will be the next stop for the Cardinals. Plattsburgh will find out who its opponent will be when the NCAA Division III Women's Hockey bracket is announced Monday morning at 10 a.m. in a live selection show on NCAA.com.
Bowdoin won its third NESCAC Championship and first since '04 with a 2-1 victory over Middlebury in Kenyon Arena. The Polar Bears (21-4-2) earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will find out their fate on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. when the selections are announced. The Panthers move to 18-7-2 and will look for an at-large bid during the selection show.
The Norwich University women's ice hockey team shutout archrival Manhattanville 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena to repeat as Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's East Tournament champions. Junior defenseman Kayla Parsons, sophomore forward Tyne Gove and freshman defenseman Taylor Cross each scored a goal, while senior goaltender Kelly Fisk made 15 saves to help the Cadets claim their fourth ECAC East Tournament title in the last five seasons. The Cadets will now wait to find out who they will play in the 2013 NCAA D-III Tournament Quarterfinals. The field will be announced in a live selection show at 10 a.m.
