Sen. Bernie SandersBURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, says he's working with the committee on a 10-year budget which would create jobs, lower the deficit and protect working families and the most vulnerable people in our society.
The left-leaning independent lawmaker says a bill from the committee should move to the Senate floor later this month, and that he'll keep pushing for tax increases on the wealthy and corporations to help close the nation's budget deficit.
He said in a statement released Monday that corporate profits today are at an all-time high while corporate income tax revenue as a share of the overall economy is near a record low.
