ALBANY, N.Y. -
A bill to increase New York's minimum wage is moving forward.
The state Assembly voted to increase the minimum wage to $9 an hour with automatic increases tied to inflation. It passed after four hours of debate Tuesday night.
That now puts pressure on the Senate's Republicans, who are seeking business tax cuts in any deal. The bill now goes to the Senate.
Currently, the minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. Gov. Andrew Cuomo had proposed an $8.75 wage, but he says he's open to negotiation.
