Coventry voters narrowly approve fire department

COVENTRY, Vt. -

A new volunteer fire department is in the works in Coventry.

Voters approved the plan by a very slim margin. The Caledonian Record reports two votes separated the decision to staff their own department rather than pay other municipalities to respond.

They plan to fund the department startup with $500,000 in tipping fees from the Casella Waste Landfill.
