STOWE, Vt. -- The state's best young snowboarders hit the halfpipe at Stowe Thursday on the opening day of the Vermont high school state championships.
In the boys race Matt O'Leary of Essex won the individual title, edging Balck River's Austin Rebetz by less than a point.
South Burlington put three boarders in the top eleven, led by fourth place Kyle Kastea, to claim team honors.
The girls event was dominated by Burr & Burton. The Bulldogs earning the top three spots in the standings to cruise to the team title. Caroline Kepler, Kirsten Lima and Katy Jones finishing 1-2-3.
The championships conclude Friday at Stowe with the Slopestyle and Giant Slalom runs.
