BARRE, Vt. -

Vermont's aspiring young poets will take to the stage next week for the annual Poetry Out Loud competition.

38 high schools are participating this year.

The state finals will take place Wednesday at the Barre Opera House starting at 10 a.m. The event is open to the public and will be streamed live on the event's Facebook page.

The winner will get $200 and represent Vermont in Washington D.C. in April. Last year's winner from Vermont, Claude Mumbere, placed second in the national competition.
