BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Every year, the president delivers a State of the Union speech, a chance to look at what's working and not working in the country. Senator Bernie Sanders wanted to hear from students. So, for the last three years he has held a State of the Union Essay Contest, where kids can say what they think are the major issues. More than 300 students submitted essays.
Sanders joined the top three finalists. Cally Braun had the top essay, she is in 11th grade at Champlain Valley Union High School. Second place is Emily Ellsworth, who is in 11th grade at Colchester High School. And third place is Genevieve Chiola, in 9th grade at Mt. Abraham Union High School. Watch the video for more.
