COLCHESTER, Vt. -
Green Mountain Power customers may notice a new charge on their bills.
This year residential customers are paying an additional "Electric Assistance Program Fee." The $1.50 monthly fee is designed to help low-income customers. If they meet program requirements, they can get up to $25 a month toward their bills.
The new fee was put into place by the Public Service Board.
"This has been years in the making. Vermont was the only state in New England not to have a special rate for low-income customers," said Dotty Schnure, the spokesperson for GMP.
Commercial and industrial customers are seeing the new fees as well, to the tune of $2.50 and $88.33 per bill respectively.
