Saturday, March 9th

BARRE, Vt. - Top seeds ruled the day at the boys basketball state finals Saturday at the Barre Auditorium.

Vergennes, Williamstown and Rochester completed outstanding seasons by winning the Division Two, Three and Four state titles respectively.

In Division Two, the Commodores beat second seed Burr & Burton 62-49 to finish a 24-0 season and claim the school's first state championship since 2001. Shep Carter had a game high 18 for Vergennes.

In D-3, it was the culmination of another perfect season as Williamstown beat Thetford 63-39 to win a second straight state crown. Devin Duff scored a game high 22 for the 23-0 Blue Devils.

In Division Four, Rochester wasn't playing for perfection, but it was close enough as the Rockets improved to 23-1 with a 68-43 win over West Rutland for Rochester's first D-4 championship since 1993. Pavin Parrish had another monster game with 38 points, and his 74 points combined over the semifinals and finals tied the Barre record for the most points scored in a two game series.
