Senior Lauren Buschmann scored a team-high 10 points for Vermont, but the sixth-seeded Catamounts fell 64-33 to No. 2 Hartford in the semifinals of the 2013 America East Championships at SEFCU Arena on the campus of the University at Albany.
Buschmann, an America East All-Conference Third Team and All-Academic selection, was 3-for-3 from the field and went 4-for-5 from the foul line in her final game as a Catamount. She added three rebounds and two blocks. Niki Taylor chipped in eight points and five rebounds.
Ruthanne Doherty came off the bench to score a game-high 13 points and added five rebounds in 16 minutes of work to pace Hartford.
The Hawks built an eight-point advantage at the 12:04 mark of the first half and used its defense to build a 35-8 lead at halftime. Hartford forced UVM into 19 turnovers in the first 20 minutes and held the Catamounts to 26.7 percent shooting and four field goals. Taylor provided much of the offense in the first half scoring six of the UVM's eight points.
Vermont bounced back to score 25 points in the second half, fueled by Buschmann's 10 points, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Hartford was able to maintain a comfortable lead throughout the final 20 minutes to move on to the America East Championship game.
Vermont closes out the year with a record of 10-21. The Hawks move to 21-10 overall and will face the winner of No. 1 Albany/No. 5 New Hampshire on March 16 at the highest remaining seed.
