BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Congressmen Peter Welch is speaking out about the sequestration debate that remains a hot topic in Washington.
Welch says Republicans continue to be locked down in their stance on the billions of dollars in automatic cuts that went into effect March 1. One of the many casualties-- canceled tours at the White House.
"Well, I was pretty disappointed about that. One of the things that people contact our office about is to take a tour of the White House, and it generally involves kids that are in elementary school or just starting high school and it's a highlight of their young lives," said Welch, D-Vermont.
Welch points to President Barack Obama's planned trip to Congress as a bright spot this week. He hopes the efforts will help prod lawmakers to compromise.
