RUTLAND, Vt. -

A Vermont inmate accused of threatening Gov. Peter Shumlin will stand trial.

During a competency hearing Tuesday, a federal judge found 22-year-old Dakota Gardner competent to stand trial, citing a new psychiatric evaluation.

State police say while he was in the Springfield prison last year, Gardner sent a letter threatening violence against Shumlin and his family.
