BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The YMCA in downtown Burlington has a new name. The building is now the Pomerleau Family YMCA, named after philanthropist Tony Pomerleau.
A spokesperson for the Y says Pomerleau donated $1 million to the facility with the condition that they raise enough money to match his donation. The $2 million will be used to expand the building and offer more programs in the future.
"He has been so generous and so kind and his love of children is just amazing," said Mary Burns, the CEO of the Burlington YMCA.
Right now the Y has a waiting list for many of its programs. Officials there hope adding about 15,000 square feet will cut down on the backlog.
