Williamstown and Winooski will meet for the Division III Girls basketball state championship on Saturday at the Barre Auditorium. The Blue Devils beat Thetford, 56-45 while the Spartans knocked off top seed Hazen, 65-44 in the semifinals on Thursday Night.
Williamstown had a 7 point lead early on. Freshman Shayna Guild and sophomore Danielle Jesmonth scored 10 points apiece. The Panthers would cut the lead to 2, led by Shyann Josler with a game high 15 points. But the Blue Devils would pull away late advancing to their first ever state title game.
It will also be the first ever trip to the big game for the fifth seed Spartans. Winooski put together a 13-2 run in the first quarter, led by Brianna Robare. She had a game high 27 points to go with 7 assists and 8 rebounds. Hazen was led by Alyssa Whitney with 14 points.
