Future doctors at the University of Vermont got big news Friday in Burlington.
It's called "match day" -- when medical students find out where they will spend their residencies. A group of 100 students cheered one another as they opened envelopes with the details about where they will head next.
Jeff McLaren of Essex Junction is heading to the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. "Now I'm going to plan on celebrating tonight. I am going to call my mom as soon as I am done with this interview and tell her because I know she is waiting and then get ready to move to Boston to start the next stage of my life -- which I am really excited about," he said.
Tens of thousands of medical students participate in match day ceremonies at schools across the country. The milestone for the nation's future doctors was founded more than 60 years ago in order to provide a uniform date for the big news.
