MONTPELIER, Vt. -
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) says global warming is a bigger threat to the nation's future than terrorism.
The senator held a town meeting-style discussion at Montpelier High School Saturday to talk about how climate change will affect Vermont. Earlier this week he proposed legislation that would enact a carbon tax and end fossil fuel subsidies.
Sanders said across the state, Vermonters are finding ways to reduce energy consumption.
"We can be a leader in showing the rest of the country what sensible energy policy is about," he said.
Saturday's discussion drew a small group of protesters. They argue policies like a carbon tax are not based on science and would have a minimal impact on emissions.
