After falling to Rice in the previous two DI state championship games, CVU finally found the winning formula Monday night at Patrick Gymnasium.
Behind Emily Kinneston's team-high 12 points and 11 from Sadie Otley, the Redhawks defeated the Green Knights 47-42 to finish their season a perfect 23-0 and claim their first title since 1987.
Trailing 20-9 midway through the second quarter, CVU rallied with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 20-17 at halftime. After tying the game in the third, the Redhawks would use key buckets by Kinneston and Amanda Lougee late in the fourth to seal the victory.
