BURLINGTON, Vt. -
First Massachusetts and now New York-- both states are expanding a quarantine to contain the invasive emerald ash borer.
Last month, we told you that Berkshire County in Massachusetts had ordered no hardwood, firewood, ash nursery stock or untreated ash lumber be allowed to move outside the county, which borders Connecticut, New York and Vermont.
Now, beginning May 1, New York will expand its quarantine to most of southern New York, including Rensselaer County-- also adjacent to Vermont.
The beetle has killed millions of ash trees nationwide.
