CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. -
Voters in Champlain, N.Y., voted against doing away with their village government.
Dozens of people lined up at the village offices waiting for the polls to open at noon Tuesday.
If approved, the village would have begun working on a plan to have the town of Champlain takeover.
Residents who led a petition drive to get the referendum before voters say the village government is redundant and provides very few services.
But the unofficial vote Tuesday night
showed little support -- 59 voting to disolve the
village -- 199 voting to keep it.
