New York, N.Y. -
World Cup Champion Mikaela Shiffrin appeared on the Late Show Tuesday night to talk about her big win.
The 18-year-old Burke Mountain Academy senior won the World Cup Slalom title last week with a combined time of 1:55.60 seconds.
It capped off an incredible season for Shiffrin, but she told David Letterman she was worried after her first run.
"Part of the problem was that I didn't -- I just had a really bad run. I didn't make any mistakes so I got to the finish and I was more than a second out and I was thinking 'Oh God, I'm slow,'" she said. "Sometimes it's snow conditions, sometimes you're just in the start and it's you and the hill and this hill was really steep at the start so I was thinking, 'Well, I'm plummeting to my death.'"
Shiffrin is the youngest winner in nearly four decades.
