Chittenden county man denies sexually assaulting child

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A Chittenden County man is facing a slew of criminal charges following allegations he sexually assaulted a child he knows.

The victim told police 39-year-old Jamie Peters assaulted her several times over the last seven years. When police confronted Peters they say he cried, denied the allegations, and allegedly assaulted the arresting officer. Prosecutors say he has a lengthy criminal record.

"There are numerous failures to appear regardless of their time. There are numerous felony convictions. There are four violations of probation, ten parole violations and several false information to police officer convictions," explained Andrew Strauss, Chittenden County Deputy Prosecutor.

Peters pled not guilty and had to be forcibly removed by two officers after he continued to try to communicate with a woman in the courtroom. The judge set bail at 25-thousand dollars. Peters faces a possible life sentence.
