Vt. Interfaith Action pushes for affordable health care

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Affordable health care is in the prayers of Vermont's Interfaith Action members.

For many of the state's poor, health insurance costs will rise substantially when the state moves to an exchange program because of changes to current subsidies like Catamount Health.

The group says they fear the new system will make insurance too expensive for many, so clergy are pressing lawmakers to find ways to bring the prices down.

"As a person of faith, I believe we are all one another's neighbors. What happens with one of us affects all of us," says Rev. Mara Dowdall of the Unitarian Church of Montpelier.

The group says they support the soda tax or other potential funding sources that would help close the gap.
