DERBY, Vt. -
A Derby recreation center may have to close.
Indoor Recreation of Orleans County, or IROC, is in foreclosure proceedings.
IROC serves 14 communities with a pool, indoor track and tennis courts. But it is $1.4 million in debt. Officials say its finances have been improving, but a judge recently ruled against an extension to pay back its debt.
Executive Director Phil White tells WCAX News the effort to save the facility will go down to the last minute, but plans are under way to shutter the facility March 31. He says planned summer events, like the Tour de Kingdom and the Kingdom Swim among others, will not be canceled.
